President of the Republic Tarja Halonen met Vice President Jusuf Kalla of Indonesia at the Presidential Palace on Friday, 20 January 2006. Among other things they discussed the Aceh peace process and post-tsunami reconstruction as well as Finland's coming EU Presidency and the Asia Europe Meeting that will take place during it.
They noted that bilateral economic relations between Finland and Indonesia have developed positively and there are possibilities to increase economic dealings.
Vice President Kalla is visiting Finland on 19-21 January at the invitation of Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen. He will also meet the leadership of the Free Aceh Movement at an occasion hosted by former President Martti Ahtisaari. The intention is to discuss the implementation of the Aceh peace agreement. The peace agreement was signed in Helsinki last August with President Ahtisaari serving as mediator.
