President of the Republic of Finland Tarja Halonen hosted a forum on Finnish work at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday, 29 August 2006. The purpose of the forum was to discuss the competitiveness of Finnish work in a rapidly changing society.
People from different parts of society - political decision-makers and civil servants, representatives of business and workers' organizations, researchers and representatives of civil society - had been invited to participate in the forum.
In addition to President Halonen, speakers included Mr Jorma Ollila, the chairman of Nokia Corporation; Ms Anne Brunila, the director of the Finnish Forest Industries Federation; Mr Lauri Ihalainen, the president of the Central Organization of Finnish Trade Unions; and Mr Sixten Korkman, the managing director of the Finnish Business and Policy Forum EVA. The floor was also open for discussion. Mr Tarmo Ropponen served as moderator.
