Ahtisaari travels to Berlin and to Tanzania
President Martti Ahtisaari and Mrs Eeva
Ahtisaari are travelling to Berlin on Tuesday,
October 19, 1999. They will visit the new Finnish
Embassy and Ambassador’s Residence and in the
evening attend a concert given by the Nordic Youth
Orchestra at the Berlin Philharmonic Hall at which
other Nordic heads of state and Germany’s top
political leaders will also be present.
On Wednesday, President and Mrs Ahtisaari will attend
a celebration to mark the opening of the joint Nordic
diplomatic area, together with other Nordic heads of
state. This function will be followed by a luncheon
given by German President and Mrs Johannes Rau.
President Ahtisaari will also have a separate meeting
with German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder.
From Berlin, President Ahtisaari will travel
on to Tanzania on Wednesday, October 20, 1999, to
take part in a memorial function in honour of former
Tanzanian President Julius Nyerere, to be held in Dar
es Salaam on Thursday, October 21.
President Ahtisaari will return to Finland on Friday.
