Key issues for European security raised during President Niinistö’s working visit to France

President of the Republic of Finland Sauli Niinistö made a working visit to France and met with President of France Emmanuel Macron in Paris on Tuesday, 7 September 2021.

At a bilateral meeting held in the Élysée Palace, the Presidents discussed for more than an hour about, among other things, the geopolitical position of Europe and ”the Strategic Compass”. The countries’ bilateral relations and climate change were also a focus of discussion.

“We talked about issues central to the security of the whole of Europe. The tone of the discussion was very open”, President Niinistö commented afterwards.

During the visit, the President also met with Laurent Fabius, President of the Constitutional Council of France, as well as French researchers and experts in international politics.
