President of the Republic of Finland Sauli Niinistö had a telephone conversation with the President of France Emmanuel Macron on the evening of Sunday, 16 January 2022.
The Presidents discussed the current situation at the borders of Ukraine and the European security situation. Both emphasized the importance of dialogue with Russia. It is imperative that also the European voice is clearly heard in the debate. President Niinistö supported President Macron’s activities in the context of the French EU Presidency.
Presidents also discussed security cooperation in the European Union as well as the close relationship with the United States.
