President of the Republic of Finland Sauli Niinistö met President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Tuesday 16 June.

“My main concern is the current situation in Ukraine. I am particularly worried about the lack of progress in the implementation of the Minsk Agreement,” President Niinistö said. He believes the situation has had a grave impact on the relationship between Russia and the European Union.

President Niinistö emphasised Finland’s contribution to the work of the OSCE. “We will continue to be actively involved in the work of the OSCE in Ukraine,” the President said at the press conference.

“Everyone should make determined efforts to promote the achievement of peace in Ukraine and to ease the tensions between Russia and the West.”

In addition to the situation in Ukraine, the bilateral relations of Finland and Russia were discussed at the meeting.
