On Thursday, 2 September 2021, President of the Republic of Finland Sauli Niinistö met with Defence Forces’ personnel who supported the Ministry for Foreign Affairs relief team in the Afghanistan evacuation operation.
The President spoke with members of the unit tasked with safeguarding that participated in the operation and thanked them for their important work for Finland. During the discussions, the President received an account of the force’s own actions and of the international cooperation that took place between many countries during the operation.
Earlier in the day, President Niinistö also met with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs relief team that participated in the operation.
