President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö met with honorary consuls representing Finland in Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia on Wednesday 14 September 2022 at the Presidential Palace.

President Niinistö said in his speech that he appreciates the work that the honorary consuls do to strengthen relations between Finland and the countries they reside in. The President and the honorary consuls discussed, among other things, the Finnish education system, the security situation in Europe and the situation in Ukraine.

A total of 14 honorary consuls attended the meeting.

Honorary consuls work to support Finnish business and cultural life and to assist Finnish citizens in the country where they are based. Honorary consuls are private individuals who carry out their tasks on a part-time basis without remuneration. They lead honorary consulates, which complement the network of Finland’s diplomatic and consular missions abroad.
