President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier visits Finland and Kultaranta Talks

President of the Republic of Finland Sauli Niinistö and Mrs Jenni Haukio welcomed Federal President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Mrs Elke Büdenbender to Kultaranta, Naantali, on Sunday 15 June 2019. President Steinmeier attended Kultaranta talks on Sunday.

The Kultaranta Talks focused on foreign and security policy. The event began on Sunday evening, 16 June, with opening remarks by President Niinistö and keynote speech by President Steinmeier on “The Future of Europe”.

On Monday, 17 June, there will be a panel discussion “Finland – a provider of European security?” concluding session “Politics in disruption – will democracy persist?

The two-day event takes place at the President’s summer residence Kultaranta. Organised for the seventh time, it gathers together about a hundred experts and opinion leaders from various sectors of society.

Yle will broadcast the main discussions of the event live. The Sunday evening discussion will be broadcast online at Yle Areena in English and the Monday discussions both on Yle TV1 channel and at Yle Areena (in Finnish).
