The President of the Republic and the Cabinet Committee on Foreign and Security Policy discussed the current situation in Ukraine on Thursday 12 March 2015.

Finland considers it vitally important that the Minsk agreement of 12 February is implemented and the ceasefire adhered to. Violations of the ceasefire continue. Finland supports strengthening of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission so that it will be able to carry out the tasks given to it to support and monitor the implementation of the Minsk agreement.

The humanitarian situation in eastern Ukraine is weak. Both parties to the conflict should take measures to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid. In February, Finland granted an additional EUR 500,000 as humanitarian aid to Ukraine through the Red Cross. During the conflict, Finland has given a total of EUR 9.5 million in support to Ukraine.
