On Saturday, 15 October, President of the Republic of Finland Sauli Niinistö visited the centenary gala of the sports club Myrskylän Myrsky in Myrskylä. President Niinistö gave his greetings to the sports club celebrating its anniversary. In his address, the President underscored that active sports clubs and associations enable both successes in the field of sports and encourage children and young people to join sports activities.

“Participation in club activities does not only require time and effort but it also gives a lot to those taking part in voluntary work. It gives you a feeling that you have been involved and contributed to joint activities, to children and young people doing sports,” President Niinistö said.

At the gala, the President of the Republic of Finland met with the management of the sports club, leaders of the municipality of Myrskylä, and the best-known athlete of Myrskylän Myrsky, the multiple Olympic medallist Lasse Virén and his spouse Päivi Virén.
