State visit by the President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella to Finland

President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella will pay a state visit to Finland on 26 – 28 September 2017, accompanied by his daughter Laura Mattarella. The visit will be hosted by Sauli Niinistö, President of the Republic of Finland, together with his spouse Mrs Jenni Haukio. President Niinistö and Mrs Haukio will receive their guests at a welcoming ceremony in the Presidential Palace on Wednesday, 27 September 2017.

The agenda for the state visit will include a bilateral discussion between the presidents as well as discussions among a larger group. Themes of the discussions will include political and economic relations between Finland and Italy, security policy questions, as well as other current international questions. The day will conclude with a state dinner at the Presidential Palace hosted by President Niinistö and Mrs Jenni Haukio.

During his visit President Mattarella will also meet with Speaker of the Finnish Parliament Maria Lohela and Prime Minister Juha Sipilä.

President Sauli Niinistö paid a working visit to Italy in November 2014 during which he met with President Giorgio Napolitano. The previous state visit from Italy to Finland was in 2008 when President Napolitano met President Tarja Halonen.
