Finland 100: Generations mix at the Independence Day Reception

Office of the President of the Republic
Press release 62/2017
7 November 2017

The first invitations to the Independence Day Reception of the President of the Republic of Finland have been sent out. During one hundred years of independence, many talents have helped to transform Finland from a poor nation into a prosperous state. This is why President of the Republic, Sauli Niinistö, and his spouse, Mrs Jenni Haukio, have invited to the Reception persons who have distinguished themselves during the different decades of independence.

Every effort has been made to reflect chronological and geographical coverage in the guest list, which includes not only legends, but also young talents from culture, sport, economics and politics. This year as usual, the veterans from our wars and members of the Lotta women’s auxiliary are rightful guests of honour. Also, two deserving young people from each region in Finland have been invited separately as representatives of Finland’s future.

The reception programme will be announced in more detail nearer Independence Day.
