President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö and President Vladimir Putin of Russia had a brief telephone conversation on Tuesday, 5 January. The discussion was conducted on Russia’s initiative.
The presidents extended wishes for a Happy New Year and thanked each other their cooperation in the past year. They also talked about Tuesday evening’s Ice Hockey World Junior Championships final between Finland and Russia; may the best team win, said both presidents, supporting their own country.
