President of the Republic of Finland Sauli Niinistö had an hour-long telephone conversation with President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin on 28 December.
Besides bilateral relations between Finland and Russia, the presidents discussed current issues in the Arctic Council and the Council of Europe, the situation in the Sea of Azov and nuclear arms control.
The presidents also wished each other a Happy New Year.
The discussion was held on Finland’s initiative.
