The President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö had a telephone conversation with the Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday, 6 October 2017. The topics discussed by the presidents included Arctic cooperation, also in the context of black carbon, great power relations, aviation safety over the Baltic Sea as well as the situation in Ukraine and President Putin’s initiative of deploying peacekeepers in eastern Ukraine. The presidents also talked about the bilateral relations and economic cooperation between Finland and Russia.
The conversation was initiated by Finland.
