President Niinistö spoke with US President Biden and Swedish Prime Minister Andersson

President of the Republic of Finland Sauli Niinistö, President of the United States Joseph R. Biden and Prime Minister of Sweden Magdalena Andersson had a trilateral phone call on Tuesday, 9 August 2022.

Immediately after the call President Biden confirmed with his signature the US ratification of Finland’s and Sweden’s NATO membership. President Niinistö, President Biden and Prime Minister Andersson discussed the still needed ratifications and Finland’s and Sweden’s future role as NATO members.

President Niinistö thanked President Biden for the valuable US support during the past year. “We have come a long way since we first discussed these matters”, President Niinistö said to President Biden.

In addition to security policy, President Niinistö also raised the importance of technology cooperation in the relations between Finland, Sweden and the United States. The conversation also addressed the need to continue supporting Ukraine.

The phone call was initiated by the United States.
