President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö will visit the Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun, Sweden on the closing day of the event on 1 March 2015. In the closing ceremony, President Niinistö will present his greetings and accept the symbolic flag that will be handed over to Finland as the host nation of the next Championships. The City of Lahti will host the Nordic Ski World Championships in 2017, which will also mark the 100th anniversary of Finland’s independence.
In addition to President Niinistö, the delegation accepting the flag will include representatives of the City of Lahti, the Finnish Ski Association, the Ski Club of Lahti and the Lahti 2017 organisation, as well as the Finnish Olympic gold medallists Marja-Liisa Kirvesniemi and Sami Jauhojärvi.
In Falun, President Niinistö will also meet Finnish sportsmen and women and watch the men’s 50 km cross-country skiing competition
