President Niinistö visits Germany

President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö will visit Berlin, Germany, on 11 May 2017, upon an invitation by President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier. This will be the first official bilateral meeting between the two presidents.

Among other issues, the presidents will discuss transatlantic relations, Russia, immigration and refugee policy, Finland’s term as the Chairman of the Arctic Council and the future of Europe.

During his visit, President Niinistö will also meet with President of the Bundestag Norbert Lammert and former President of the Federal Republic of Germany Joachim Gauck. In addition, he will visit The Luther Effect exhibition, which explores the history of Protestantism, in the Martin-Gropius-Bau. The exhibition has been set up by the German Historical Museum.
