President of Estonia to make state visit to Finland

Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves and spouse will make a state visit to Finland during 12–14 May 2014.

President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö and his spouse Jenni Haukio will welcome the guests at an official reception ceremony in front of the Government Banquet Hall on Etelä-Esplanadi at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, 13 May.

The topics to be covered in the presidential discussions include bilateral relations between Finland and Estonia, the crisis in Ukraine and security policy issues.

President Ilves will also meet Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen, and pay a visit to the Finnish Parliament where Speaker Eero Heinäluoma will be the host. President Ilves is also due to make a speech at an event held by the Finnish National Defence Course Association.

The President will be accompanied by a business delegation of close to 40 members, while the programme for the state visit includes a seminar at the Helsinki City Hall on economic relations between Finland and Estonia, and visits to entertainment media company Rovio and to Vuosaari Harbour. A visit to the fortress island of Suomenlinna is also in the programme.

The Estonian President’s last state visit to Finland was in 2007. President Niinistö paid an official visit to Estonia in 2012.
