President of Latvia to pay state visit to Finland

Andris Bērziņš, President of Latvia, will make a state visit to Finland on 28–29 January. President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö will hold bilateral talks with President Bērziņš at the Presidential Palace. Topics will include the bilateral relations between the countries, regional and EU cooperation and current security policy issues. Latvia is the current holder of the EU Presidency for the first half of 2015.

In addition, President Bērziņš will visit Parliament, where Speaker Eero Heinäluoma will act as host, and meet Prime Minister Alexander Stubb. The President’s delegation will include several ministers and a large business delegation, and a Finnish – Latvian business seminar will be arranged during the visit.

President Bērziņš will also be given a general introduction to Finnish technology and research, visiting Aalto University, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and the Geological Survey of Finland.

The visit will conclude with a concert organised by the Embassy of Latvia in the famous Rock church (Temppeliaukion kirkko). The concert will form part of the cultural programme of the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
