Presidential couple to attend 100th anniversary celebrations of Åland’s autonomy

President of the Republic of Finland Sauli Niinistö and Mrs Jenni Haukio will visit the Åland Islands and attend the 100th anniversary celebrations of Åland’s autonomy on Thursday, 9 June 2022.

The programme of the day includes visits to the Bomarsund Fortress and to Kastelholm Castle, an event on Åland’s autonomy and status as a demilitarised region, and a ceremony at the statue of Julius Sundblom, where President Niinistö will give a speech.

In addition to the presidential couple, the 100th anniversary celebrations of Åland’s autonomy will be attended by King Carl XVI Gustav and Queen Silvia of Sweden, the Speakers of the Nordic countries’ Parliaments and representatives of the Finnish Government.
