It is alarming that a military coup has been attempted in Turkey, on the very doorstep of the EU. It goes without saying that Finland supports the democratically elected government of Turkey.
The next few days, weeks and months will reveal where this outbreak of instability will lead in Turkey and its neighbouring areas. I foresee no direct impacts on the security situation in Europe, although further instability added to that which already exists is a cause for concern.
I hope that the situation in Turkey stabilises as soon as possible. In the best case scenario, political leaders in the country will now have the opportunity to find some kind of common ground.
