President Halonen to visit Jordan, Israel and the Palestinian territories

President of the Republic Tarja Halonen and Dr Pentti Arajärvi will make a visit to the Middle East on 9–14 October 2010. The programme will include official visits to Jordan and the Palestinian territories and a state visit to Israel.

During the trip President Halonen will meet King Abdullah II of Jordan, President of Israel Shimon Peres and President of the Palestinian National Authority Mahmoud Abbas. Discussion topics will include the Middle East situation and other current international affairs.

During the visit President Halonen will also meet the Prime Ministers of Jordan and Israel and visit the national parliaments. The programme will include visits to cultural sites, such as the city of Petra in Jordan.

The delegation of the President of the Republic will include Minister for Foreign Affairs Alexander Stubb.

President Halonen visited Egypt and Syria in October 2009.
