Presidential forum on young people and the future

President of the Republic Tarja Halonen is organising a Presidential Forum on Thursday, 19 January with the theme of "Young people and the future". The event is intended for discussion on how Finland and the rest of the world appear in the eyes of young people.

Invitations to the 20th Presidential Forum were sent to representatives and opinion-makers in political youth organisations, student associations and other non-governmental and youth organisations.

In addition to President Halonen an introductory speech will also be made by Hanna-Mari Manninen, President of Finnish Youth Cooperation Allianssi. The event will be chaired by Ville Blåfield, Development Director at Helsingin Sanomat.

The Presidential Forum can be followed can be watched as a live webcast during 9.00 a.m. - 12.00 a.m.

Presidential Forums have been arranged since 2006 at the initiative of President Halonen. Themes on previous occasions have included Finnish labour competitiveness, expertise and innovations, foreign policy, care for the elderly, the Baltic Sea, tolerance, municipal services, the “silent years” in Finnish history, Finland in the face of change, fundamental and human rights, jobs and unemployment, climate change, family violence, globalisation and the UN Millennium Development Goals, peacekeeping and crisis management, the Arctic region, sustainable development, culture, and the state of Europe and the world.
