President of the Republic Tarja Halonen and Dr Pentti Arajärvi will make a conference trip to India on 4-8 February 2009. President Halonen will attend the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS), where she will give an opening address and take part in panel discussions. Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon will also give an opening address.
President Halonen will be accompanied by Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Paavo Väyrynen and a high-level business delegation.
During the trip President Halonen will also go to Chennai, where she will visit Finnish companies and participate in a discussion concerning education. In addition the programme includes a visit to a school specializing in the arts.
Afterwards President Halonen and Dr Arajärvi will remain in India for a private holiday. They will return to Finland on 15 February.
