President Halonen attended the ECOSOC session in New York

President Tarja Halonen attended the ECOSOC high-level segment in New York on 28-30 June 2005 addressing such issues as the achievement of the millennium development goals and preparations for the autumn’s United Nations Summit.

President Halonen gave a keynote address at the meeting and chaired a Roundtable discussion on human rights and good governance.

While at the session, President Halonen met also UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, former US President Bill Clinton, who currently acts as the Secretary-Generals Special Envoy for Tsunami Recovery, Mr Jean Ping, President of the UN General Assembly, and Mr Juan Somavia, Director General of the ILO.


President Halonen discussed with former US President Bill Clinton about globalization and the natural disaster in Asia. Clinton acts currently as the UN Secretary-General's Envoy for Tsunami Recovery.
