President Halonen receives international Silver Rose Award

President of the Republic of Finland Tarja Halonen is to be honoured with Solidar’s International Silver Rose Award for her role as co-chair of the World Commission on the Social Dimension of Globalization and for her campaign to promote the human face of globalization.

President Halonen will participate in the awards ceremony in the European Parliament on Tuesday 7 November. The award will be presented by John Prescott, the Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Other international award winners are Sudan Organisation Against Torture (SOAT) and Israeli workers’ rights NGO Kav La O’ved. Solidar’s annual Silver Rose Awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of individuals and organisations who are active in the fight for social justice.

While in Brussels, President Halonen will also visit the European Commission and meet commissioners Margot Wallström and Olli Rehn.
