World Commission on the Social Dimension of Globalisation publishing report

President of the Republic Tarja Halonen will be present at the publication of the report of the World Commission on the Social Dimension of Globalisation in London on Tuesday, 24 February 2004.

The report, entitled "A Fair Globalization: Creating opportunities for all", addresses the issue of a fairer globalization from all sides of the debate and provides an in-depth examination of the key issues in today's globalization debate: achieving fairness in the rules of the game (particularly in trade, finance and migration), expanding prosperity, creating jobs, increasing global security and addressing economic injustices.

President Halonen and President Benjamin Mkapa of Tanzania have co-chaired the Commission, the other members of which are 24 distinguished persons from different geographical regions and including political decision makers and representatives of business, NGOs and research institutions. The independent Commission was created on the initiative of the International Labour Organisation in 2002.

Both of the Commission’s co-chairs and ILO Director-General Juan Somavia will be in London for the publication of the report.

The report will be posted on the President’s web site www.president.fi on Tuesday 24.2.2004 at 13:00 GMT (15:00 Finnish time).
