The President of the Republic's Chief of Cabinet is changing. On Friday, 8 October 2004, President Tarja Halonen appointed Chief of Cabinet Jaakko Kalela as Finland's new ambassador to Tallinn. Kalela will start as a senior counsellor at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs on 1 March 2005 and will take charge of the embassy in Tallinn on 1 September 2005.
Diplomatic Adviser and Deputy Chief of Cabinet Jarmo Viinanen has been appointed as the new Chief of Cabinet beginning on 1 March 2005.
Jaakko Kalela has worked at the Office of the President of the Republic since 1973, first as a special adviser and since 1984 as Chief of Cabinet.
Jarmo Viinanen has served as the President of the Republic's diplomatic adviser since 2000. Before that he worked at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs as adviser to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, first secretary in the Department for External Trade Relations and first secretary at the Finnish embassies in Washington and Tel Aviv.
