President Halonen to open European Youth Olympic Festival in Tampere

President of the Republic Tarja Halonen and Dr Pentti Arajärvi will participate in the opening ceremonies of the European Youth Olympic Festival in Tampere on Sunday, 19 July 2009. President Halonen will open the event. Over 2,600 young athletes from 49 countries will participate in the week-long Olympic Festival.

On their way to Tampere President Halonen and Dr Arajärvi will visit this year's Housing Fair in Valkeakoski. They will travel to Valkeakoski from Pori, where they will attend the Pori Jazz Festival on 17-18 July.
