President Halonen to make state visit to Ireland

President of the Republic Tarja Halonen and Dr Pentti Arajärvi will make a state visit to Ireland on 11-14 November 2007.

During the visit President Halonen will meet with President Mary McAleese, Prime Minister Bertie Ahern and other Irish leaders. The programme will also include a luncheon hosted by the University of Dublin and a trip to the Boyne Valley outside Dublin.

President Halonen will be accompanied by Minister of Labour Tarja Cronberg and representatives of Finland's central labour market organizations. The European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions, which is located in Dublin, will host a high-level seminar on the challenges of globalization for labour market policies and social dialogue. Political leaders and social partner representatives from Finland and Ireland will participate in the seminar, along with EU policymakers.
