President of the Republic Tarja Halonen and Dr. Pentti Arajärvi will be in Sweden on Sunday 1 June 2003 to attend the main ceremony marking the 700th anniversary of the birth of St. Birgitta.
During the day, the President and Dr. Arajärvi will attend the opening of the St. Birgitta Convent Museum, a festive Mass and a gala luncheon.
Among the distinguished guests at the ceremonies in Vadstena will be the Swedish Royal Couple and Princess Christina, Princess Benedikte of Denmark, President Arnold Rüütel of Estonia, President Rolandas Paksas of Lithuania, President Vaira Vike-Freiberga of Latvia as well as a large number of church dignitaries and other invitees.
President Halonen will travel to Vadstena from St. Petersburg, where she will participate in the ceremonies marking the 300th anniversary of the city’s foundation and attend the EU-Russia summit.
