President Halonen to Brussels

President of the Republic Tarja Halonen will travel to Brussels on 7–8 June 2011, where she will meet Herman Van Rompuy, President of the European Council, and José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission. The topics of the meetings are current affairs and sustainable development. Her programme also includes a meeting with Janez Potočnik, European Commissioner for the Environment and Connie Hedegaard, European Commissioner for Climate Change.

President Halonen will also take part in a discussion on the green economy and sustainable development organised by the European Policy Centre. The speakers include Commissioner Connie Hedegaard, who is also a member of the UN High-level Panel on Global Sustainability that President Halonen co-chairs.
