President Halonen to visit eastern Lapland

President of the Republic Tarja Halonen will visit Kemijärvi and Salla in the region of Itä-Lappi (eastern Lapland) on 24-25 September 2003. During her visit the President will familiarise herself with the development of the region, tourism enterprise, cooperation with adjacent regions of Russia and frontier functions.

The places visited will include the Customs and Border Guard post in Salla, Sallatunturi Fell and the Salla Reindeer Park as well as the Oulanka National Park. The President will also meet representatives of the municipalities of Kemijärvi, Salla, Pelkosenniemi and Kuusamo as well as local entrepreneurs.
