President of the Republic Tarja Halonen had a bilateral meeting Prime Minister Vladimir Putin of Russian in connection with the Baltic Sea Summit in Helsinki on Wednesday, 10 February. Discussions were held at the President's official residence in Mäntyniemi and they focused on cooperation in the Baltic Sea region as well as bilateral relations and timely international issues.
President Halonen thanked Prime Minister Putin for attending the Summit. “Russia’s participation is very important for cooperation in the Baltic Sea and between the countries bordering the sea”, President Halonen emphasised.
Prime Minister Putin thanked Finland for strong engagement in cleaning of community waste water in St Petersburg and promised that the work will continue.
