President of the Republic Tarja Halonen will travel to Davos, Switzerland on 26–29 January to attend the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum. Along with other world leaders, President Halonen will take part in sessions focusing on sustainable development, the Nordic welfare model and the global economic outlook.
The participants of the WEF meeting will include several members of the UN High-level Panel on Global Sustainability, which is co-chaired by President Halonen; meetings relating to the work of the panel will also be held in Davos. The President’s programme will include bilateral meetings with, for example, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, and an event for women leaders organised by Forbes magazine.
Participation in WEF meetings is by invitation only and limited to political leaders and the heads of selected organisations and businesses. Around 2,500 participants are expected to attend this year.
