President Halonen travelling to Tallinn and Vilnius

President of the Republic Tarja Halonen and Doctor Pentti Arajärvi will visit Tallinn and Vilnius on 5-6 July 2009. They will attend the Estonian Song Festival in Tallinn on Sunday 5 July. President Halonen will meet with Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves during the visit.

President Halonen and Doctor Arajärvi will then journey to Lithuania to attend the country’s Millennium celebrations in Vilnius. The President of the Republic will deliver a speech at the event, which is being held to commemorate the first time Lithuania’s name was mentioned in writing one thousand years ago.

The President of the Republic is travelling to Vilnius on the invitation of President Valdas Adamkus, who came to Finland on a state visit in April of this year. During the visit, President Halonen will also meet with Dalia Grybauskaite, the President-elect of Lithuania.

While in Vilnius, President Halonen and King Harald of Norway will together inaugurate the new premises of the Finnish and Norwegian embassies. The two embassies are situated in the same building.

The kings of Sweden and Norway, the Queen of Denmark and the presidents of Iceland, Latvia, Poland and Ukraine as well as the Prime Minister of Estonia will also attend the Millennium event in Vilnius.
