President Halonen in Central America

President of the Republic Tarja Halonen and Dr. Pentti Arajärvi visited Central America in late May and early June 2004. President Halonen attended first the EU-Latin America & the Caribbean Summit in Guadalajara, Mexico on 28 May. From Mexico the President and her party continued to Nicaragua for a state visit on 29-31 May.

The programme of Presidenti Halonen in Nicaragua included a meeting with President Enrique Bolaños, visits to development cooperation projects being funded by Finland in Bluefields on the Caribbean coast as well as an address to the national parliament.

The final country on the itinerary was Guatemala, which President Halonen visited on 1-2 June. During the working visit she met President Oscar Berger and made a speech on transparency at Rafael Landivar University.
