President of the Republic to visit Brazil and Chile

President of the Republic Tarja Halonen and Dr. Pentti Arajärvi will visit South America at the turn of October and November 2003.

The first country on their itinerary will be Brazil, to which President Halonen will pay an official visit at the invitation of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva from 30 October to 4 November. The visit will include the capital Brasília, Manaus and São Paulo.

The President will continue to Chile for a state visit, at the invitation of President Ricardo Lagos from 4 to 7 November. The cities visited by the President and her accompanying party will be Santiago de Chile and Valparaiso. The presidential couple will return to Finland on 8 November.

The party accompanying the President will include Foreign Trade and Development Minister Paula Lehtomäki and a group of Finnish business and industrial leaders.
