EU and African countries to meet in Lisbon

The EU-Africa Summit will take place in Lisbon between 7 and 9 December. The EU Member States and 52 member states of the African Union plus Morocco have been invited to the summit. President of the Republic Tarja Halonen and Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen will represent Finland at the meeting.

Main themes of the Lisbon summit will be governance and human rights; peace and security; migration; energy and climate change; and trade, infrastructures and development. The summit is to adopt the Joint EU-Africa Strategy, the Action Plan and the Lisbon Declaration.

The meeting will be the second EU-Africa Summit meeting. The first meeting was held in Cairo in 2000.
