President of the Republic of Finland Sauli Niinistö had a phone call with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Friday, 7 January 2022. The call was initiated by Stoltenberg.
Secretary General Stoltenberg informed President Niinistö about NATO’s views on the current situation. It is important that Russia de-escalates tensions at the Ukrainian borders. President Niinistö stated that dialogue is the only way forward. President Niinistö regarded it important, that NATO continues to keep its partners updated. President Niinistö expressed his appreciation to Finland’s NATO partnership. Stoltenberg reaffirmed NATO’s commitment to continuation of its Open Door policy.
