President of the Republic of Finland Sauli Niinistö visited Loppi, in the region of Kanta-Häme, on Thursday 15 June 2023.

At the Haapastensyrjä forest tree breeding center of Natural Resources Institute Finland, President Niinistö planted a tree in his name in the Rotupuisto park. For this purpose, the President had chosen a spruce tree generated by means of somatic embryogenesis. Former presidents of Finland have also planted a tree in their name, starting with President Kekkonen.

In connection with the tree-planting ceremony, President Niinistö met staff of Natural Resources Institute Finland and learned about forest tree breeding.

During his visit, President Niinistö also attended the traditional spring luncheon at the Hunting Cabin of Mannerheim, Marshal of Finland.
