President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö will attend the 25th anniversary celebrations of the liberty of Poland, to be held in Warsaw on 3–4 June 2014.

The festivities will be hosted by the President of Poland, Bronislaw Komorowski. Those present will include the presidents of the United States, Germany, France, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary, among others.

The events will begin with a Solidarity Award gala, to be followed by a dinner for the heads of state on Tuesday, 3 June. The main celebration will take place on Wednesday 4 June – exactly 25 years after the Solidarity party’s election victory, which is now considered the beginning of the end of communism in Europe. The anniversary programme will also include a discussion event, attended by the heads of state, on democracy and freedom.
