President Stubb in Brussels: Finland’s NATO integration progressing as planned

On Monday 17 November 2025, President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb visited Brussels, Belgium.

During the day, the President met with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, Prime Minister of Belgium Bart De Wever, and President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola. The meeting addressed current foreign policy issues, including the situation in Ukraine, pressure on Russia, and support for Ukraine.

Following their bilateral meeting, President Stubb and NATO Secretary General Rutte held a joint press conference, where they highlighted the importance of supporting Ukraine and strengthening the Alliance.

“Russia believes it can stop us by continuing the bombing. It is mistaken. We will continue to support Ukraine, both militarily and financially,” the President said.

In addition, President Stubb stated that Finland’s NATO integration is proceeding as planned.

“This autumn, NATO’s Multi-Corps Land Component Command (MCLCC) became operational in Mikkeli, and the Forward Land Forces (FLF) continue to operate according to plan. Both are promoting the implementation of NATO’s deterrence and defence measures in Northern Europe,” President Stubb said.

President Stubb visited the Finnish Army Command in Mikkeli on 15 October 2025. During the visit, he received a briefing on the progress of Finland’s NATO integration.
