Letters addressed to President Martti Ahtisaari and President Tarja Halonen can be sent to the Office of the President of the Republic of Finland.
Contact information for President Tarja Halonen’s office is available at www.presidenthalonen.fi. The website in use during President Halonen’s term of office (2000–2012) has been archived. The archived website contains President Halonen’s speeches, along with photo material and information on visits made by President Halonen during her term.
The contact details of President Martti Ahtisaari’s current office, the Crisis Management Initiative, are available on the organisation’s website. The website in use during President Ahtisaari’s term of office (1994–2000) has also been archived.
If necessary, the Third Aide-de-Camp to the President of the Republic acts as Aide-de-Camp to the former presidents.

Can the President of the Republic issue a residence permit or influence the processing of a residence permit?
Foreign affairs do not fall within the remit or competence of the President of the Republic. Matters concerning residence permits and citizenship are decided on by the Finnish Immigration Service, while matters concerning the entry of foreigners into the country are the responsibility of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the Finnish Immigration Service or the local police authority. A decision by an authority can be appealed to an administrative court.
The Finnish Immigration Service and other relevant authorities exercise independent decision-making powers based on legislation. The President of the Republic cannot issue instructions to authorities or courts of law, nor can the President amend their decisions.
Can the President of the Republic grant exemptions to or derogations from laws?
The President of the Republic is not competent to grant derogations from the provisions laid down in legislation.

Can I take a tour of the Presidential Palace?
You can view the halls, works of art and furniture in the Presidential Palace by taking a virtual tour. In-person tours of the Presidential Palace are not being held for the time being.
During the summer, the garden at Kultaranta is open to the public on Fridays from 18.00 to 20.00, and guided tours are provided by Visit Naantali.
