Prime Minister’s Office
2 October 2026
Press release
In their meeting on Friday 2 October, the President of the Republic and the Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy discussed the current situation in Ukraine and the need to continue to provide strong support for Ukraine and increase pressure on Russia.
The President and the Ministerial Committee also discussed China’s global role and Finland’s relationship with China. China is an important trading partner for Finland, but efforts to reduce trade imbalances and dependencies should continue. China’s support for Russia’s war of aggression is reflected in our bilateral relations and has a negative impact on European security.
In addition, the President and the Ministerial Committee received an overview of the foreign and security policy issues to be discussed at the October European Council.
The President and the Ministerial Committee also discussed security-related observations concerning members of parliament. As stated in Parliament’s press release on the matter, the police will provide information on the preliminary investigation as it progresses.
