On Tuesday 6 May, the President of the Republic and the Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy discussed the current situation in Ukraine and proposals to achieve peace and bring an end to Russia’s illegal war of aggression.
The President and the Ministerial Committee received a briefing on Finland’s participation in international crisis management. Finland currently has around 400 soldiers participating in 10 military crisis management operations within the frameworks of the UN, the EU and NATO as well as 115 seconded experts working in civilian crisis management operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
The President and the Ministerial Committee also discussed bilateral relations between Finland and the United States.
In addition, the President and the Ministerial Committee discussed topical NATO issues, the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) Leaders’ Meeting in Oslo on 8–9 May and the meeting of the European Political Community on 16 May.
