President and Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy discuss current situation in Ukraine, situation in Israel and Palestine, UN reforms and Finland’s candidacy for UN Security Council in 2029–2030

In their meeting on Friday 29 August, the President of the Republic and the Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy discussed the current situation in Ukraine, efforts to bring an end to Russia’s unlawful war of aggression and support for Ukraine. The work to specify the security arrangements for Ukraine is ongoing.

The President and the Ministerial Committee discussed Finland’s candidacy for the UN Security Council for the 2029–2030 term. They also discussed the extensive reforms underway in the UN, which aim to safeguard the UN’s ability to function in the future.

In addition, the President and the Ministerial Committee discussed the situation in Israel and Palestine and ways to strengthen the conditions for a two-state solution.
