President Stubb in Tallinn: “Deal with foreign policy as it is, not as you would wish it to be”

President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb attended the Lennart Meri Conference in Tallinn, Estonia, on Sunday 18 May 2025.

President Stubb took part in a panel discussion on “Allies, Enemies and Interests” together with President of Estonia Alar Karis, President of Slovenia Nataša Pirc Musar and Susan Glasser, Staff Writer and Columnist at The New Yorker.

During the discussion, President Stubb stated that in a changing world, allies and networks are becoming increasingly important.

He also outlined his starting points for foreign policy: “Deal with foreign policy as it is, not as you would wish it to be.”

The Lennart Meri conference brings together policymakers and experts to discuss current foreign and security policy issues. The conference builds on the legacy of Estonia’s late President Lennart Meri and his approach to foreign and security policy.
